It’s so interesting how the systems in place say that they are here for us, here to support us, when in reality, that is the biggest lie. You go to these systems to try and feel safe and they do the opposite. You go to try and feel safe and end up hurting more than you did originally. Not only is the process long, but they don’t owe you anything. They have no incentive to take care of you, protect you, and help you achieve justice. If it is easier for them not to, they will. If it is easier for them to ignore your emails for months on end, they will. They do not need to serve you, even if it is in their job description. These jobs rarely help folks and more often then not cause more harm. They work for the institution, not the people. They don’t care about people. They don’t protect survivors. They rarely beleive survivors. They protect abusers again and again and again because that is what is easiest, rather than addressing the cycle of violence and abuse. Rather than caring for those in community, they ignore, dismiss, delay, and put off until the survivor loses will. It’s like putting the victim in this washing machine that never stops until they stop it. Going around and around, getting further abused by the systems. A knife to the heart would stop bleeding faster than survivors get justice, and would probably cause less damage.
