Dancing
The lights dimmed as an orange hue filled the floor, swirling around in a way so effortless, almost magical. The floor illuminated as it was so clean and shiny that the reflection of people could be seen. Many people were previously on the dance floor but few remained when a slow song began playing. Its Been a Long, Long Time started playing as the couples swayed slowly to the beat. Another couple was dancing more elaborately with twirls and dips, all to the beat of the music. There was one couple in particular that stood out, or more didn’t stand out. They were in the corner and were swaying so slowly, a bystander could think that they were just standing and hugging each other. They embraced one another so delicately that they acted as if their arms were glass. So gentle with one another that a person could only wonder what the story was between them. Their eyes were locked and filled with love, almost a hint of remorse, when they shared a slight smile that turned into quiet laughs between them. The air they breathed, the air that they shared with each other was separated from everyone else. They were separated from everyone else. In their own bubble, not even acknowledging other couples around them, they drifted together. After what felt like eternity to them, the song ended. The two shared a look that displayed just how well they knew each other since after that one look, they turned, hand in hand, and walked out. Just like that, the moment was over and a new song came on, one that was more upbeat. But their moment wasn’t over. What seemed like an intimate moment from a bystander’s point of view was in reality a lifetime of that feeling: dancing under the dimmed lights in the air of their own bubble.
