Lifeguard

Help I’m drowning and I can’t swim

Won’t you dear lifeguard come rescue me

My weak lungs cannot bear this much longer

Yes this way I’m over here

Please help me

I’m going to die

I’m going to drown

Are you just going to let me die

Why aren’t you helping me

It’s your job to save me

Why are you not doing your job

You’re staring at me but not moving

You show no emotion but why

Can’t you see that I’m drawing

Can’t you see that I can’t swim

You must

My head keeps bobbing under

My lungs are starting to fill with water

Please

I’m begging with my eyes now

Underwater and above

Help me

It’s your job

Why won’t you

do your job?

I’m right here

See me

Save me

You can swim

You’re supposed to save me

You’re supposed to keep me alive

But you didn’t

I drowned

You watched my lifeless body float to the surface

You put your sunglasses back on and went about your day

leaving my body

flooded with water

drained of color

floating just under the surface.
